Supporting Innovation & Sharing Highlights

Dear Friends,

We’re kicking off 2017 with a renewed effort to work with innovators across the country to support students’ educational and career success. We’ll also be working with state and local leaders across New Hampshire to keep our customers — and their constituents — connected to each other and their world. Our industry is changing faster than ever, and we want to make sure public policies keep up with those changes.

Connected to Good

The new year is a perfect time to celebrate and reflect on experiences and accomplishments from the last 12 months. We focus on the communities in which we live and work across the country. Before we walk too far into 2017, we wanted to take a moment to share highlights of some of our milestones in 2016.

Mentorship

In the Fall of 2012, AT&T set out to impact the lives of students through 1 million hours of mentoring by the end of 2016. We met that goal in January of 2016, with our employees mentoring more than 160,000 students in 336 cities.

Employee mentoring is part of AT&T Aspire, the company’s signature philanthropic initiative to promote success in school and beyond.

STEM

Ninety percent of parents want their children to have access to computer science education at school, and teachers agree. However, three-quarters of U.S. schools do not offer meaningful computer science courses.
In 2016 we continued to support organizations that focus on Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). In April, our chairman and CEO, Randall Stephenson, joined other CEOs in signing an open letter to Congress, asking for federal funding to provide every student in every school the opportunity to learn computer science.

Veterans

AT&T actively focuses on recruiting veterans into career paths because the experience and skills gained through the military are an invaluable contribution to the workforce. Last spring we announced plans to hire an additional 10,000 veterans, bringing our veteran hiring commitment to a total of 20,000 by 2020.

This commitment was announced at the White House Joining Forces event, with more than 50 other companies also dedicated to hiring and training veterans and military spouses. The hiring commitment from AT&T was one of the largest announced.

At AT&T, we work hard to help create a better, more environmentally sustainable world by providing technologies that enable things like connected cars and homes; smarter and more resilient energy grids; and tools to help cities manage traffic to reduce pollution.

Connecting to good is a daily commitment, and we take pride in tracking and measuring our progress. In August, we released our annual corporate social responsibility update on our year-round efforts.
