It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s a FLYING COW

When we first announced our drone program back in July 2016, I’m sure you were intrigued, yet slightly confused. Well, since our announcement we have been working on what we like to call “Flying COWs.”

FLYING COW video

A Flying COW is a cell site on a drone. But what does COW stand for? In a nutshell, it stands for “Cell On Wings” Pretty clever, huh?

Recently our drone team — in what we believe is an industry first — successfully completed a live test flight of a Flying COW transmitting and receiving speed data outside a field in Atlanta. The Flying COW plays an important role for our Network Disaster Recovery team, and we’ll also look to use them to enhance coverage at big events like music festivals. Once operational, 1 Flying COW could eventually provide coverage to an area of up to 40 square miles.
