AT&T SHAPE explores the convergence of tech and entertainment in L.A.

SHAPE is an immersive event exploring the convergence of technology and entertainment. Now in its fourth year, SHAPE brought visionary speakers, including director Ava DuVernay; Issa Rae, creator of Insecure and Awkward Black Girl; and Brian Krzanich, CEO, Intel, and interactive exhibits featuring the magic of virtual and augmented reality and the power and speed of 5G. Attendees witnessed firsthand how entertainment tech is revolutionizing content creation, distribution and audience experiences.

“AT&T SHAPE will again unite developers, creators and media makers in a rare opportunity to encounter the convergence of tech and entertainment in a hands-on experience,” said Kevin Petersen, SVP of Wireless Device, Network and Services Marketing for AT&T Mobility and Entertainment. “Through interactive demos and dynamic speakers, guests will be inspired to shape the future of the technology and entertainment.”

The interactive experiences at SHAPE are designed to let guests experience the unprecedented responsiveness and speed of 5G. Guests engaged with the future of road-based travel in an IoT-enabled Airstream classic travel trailer with Smart Control Technology that AT&T is connecting over 5G; experienced gaming on cutting-edge 5G mobile devices; and enjoyed immersive entertainment with volumetric video capture and cutting-edge virtual reality content from Warner Bros.

AT&T also hosted 3 competitions during SHAPE:

AT&T Film Awards: Rising creators were encouraged to submit their films for the AT&T Film Awards. Finalists will be invited to attend SHAPE, where we’ll screen the top-rated films and even have the audience vote for their favorite short and help determine who will take home a share of $60,000 in prizes. Finalists will also receive a private mentoring session with DuVernay (before she kicks off the AT&T Film Awards) with a short conversation about her experience as an aspiring filmmaker.

AT&T Entertainment App Challenge: In the AT&T Entertainment App Challenge, we’re inviting developers, designers and creators to submit solutions that use cutting-edge tech to disrupt the way people create and experience entertainment. Whether it be using technologies like artificial intelligence, virtual reality/augmented reality/mixed reality, Internet of Things, and robotics, or developing apps for the second screen, the top solutions will be exhibited at SHAPE.

AT&T Create-a-thon: The AT&T Create-a-thon is a short film sprint competition being held onsite at SHAPE. Filmmakers will be given a unique opportunity to shoot their short film idea at Warner Bros., using iconic cityscapes and backlots. There will be a $10,000 cash prize for the best, completed film in a number of categories.

Attendees also toured Warner Bros. Studios’ outdoor sets and soundstages to get up-close looks at props and costumes from iconic films.
